Character Development
Spring Garden Elementary School uses a character development system for rewarding and encouraging good behavior. We focus on the 4 character traits of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, HONESTY and EFFORT. Students who show these character traits can be rewarded with Paw Pride tickets. The children have the opportunity to save up these tickets to cash in for rewards of their choice. They turn in half of each Paw Pride ticket for a chance to participate in one of the Pep Rally events each quarter.
First grade students have a manila envelope to store their Paw Pride tickets in for safe keeping. Typically we have "cash in day" on Fridays allowing the students to trade in their tickets for their desired prizes.
We monitor the students behavior throughout the day using a color system. If the child is having a good day they are "on green". Should a child break a rule or need a reminder to follow a rule his/her color may change to yellow. Should the child continue to break the rules his/her color may change to red. A child may also have a day that is exceptional and in that case the child will change his/her color to gold.
The color your child ends the day on will be recorded at the bottom of each day in the student agenda. You may also see notes written in the agenda or find Tiger Notes or Stop and Think forms in the Take Home folder to communicate about the behavior with you.
